💫 Lesson 1: Find Your Talent

Discover your special ability! Are you an Empath? Conjurer? Vanisher? Telepath? Shade? Inspired by the Keeper of the Lost Cities book series, students will create one or more new talents and write about a character manifesting this ability at Foxfire Academy.

👏 Lesson 2: You Belong!

Sophie has always felt different, like she doesn’t fit in. Discuss Sophie’s struggles with feeling different and lonely. What does it mean to belong? Can you belong to a group and still maintain your individuality? Students create a new character who is an outsider. What makes them different? How do they find a sense of belonging and family?

🎬 Lesson 3: Make a Book Trailer

Using iMovie or another app, students will make a book trailer that represents a favorite book scene. This may be a scene from one of the books OR one of their own KOTLC-inspired stories. Students will discuss why this is such a powerful, memorable part of the story.

☀️ Lesson 4: Light, Leaping Crystals, Lumenaria and more!

Imagery about light can be found throughout the books. The name of the castle, Lumenaria, comes from lumen, the Latin word for “light.” Read about the school name, Foxfire, in Book 1: Chapter Seven. And think about the relationship between light and leaping crystals. Why is light so important? Students will use imagery and alliteration in their creative writing.
