This 4-week poetry class includes a weekly 1-hour Zoom call, Google Classroom materials, & personal feedback.

🤣 Lesson 1: Shel Silverstein and Humor
Explore the hilarious world of Shel Silverstein with beloved poems from Where the Sidewalk Ends and Light in the Attic. Discuss tips for writing humor, and have fun writing your own LOL🤣 poems.
✍️ Lesson 2: Amanda Gorman and Strength
Words are powerful. Read and listen to change-making poetry by Amanda Gorman, the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history and first-ever National Youth Poet Laureate. Students write their own powerful free verse poem(s).
📖 Lesson 3: Stanzas & Rhyme Schemes
We will explore rhyme schemes and stanzas using model poems from Maya Angelou, Edward Lear, and fellow classmates! Students will develop and share their unique voice through limericks, clerihews, and odes.
🤔 Lesson 4: Ultimate Poetry Portfolio
We will discuss even more types of poetry, including cinquain, haiku, sonnets and “found” poems. We’ll explore sample poems, and students will have fun creating each type.
